James Lawson and Sylvia Compton joined the Richmond Choral Society for the Women of Note II concert on June 1, 2025 as RCS Scholars.  James is now a senior at Hanover High School and Sylvia is a senior at Douglas Freeman High School.

Of his experience, James said:  “The RCS Scholars program has given me so much to be thankful for. Everyone here in RCS is so incredibly welcoming and supportive and eager to help me grow as a musician, person, and student. Music has always been a big part of who I am, and this extraordinary opportunity is one I would urge others to take advantage of to make new friends, explore new pieces of music, and just have fun making music together. This program has truly been my biggest outlet to let my musical self shine, and I am so grateful to be able to call myself an RCS scholar!”

Sylvia commented: “I loved getting to sing with RCS because I loved getting to improve my singing skills alongside this welcoming community!  Everyone was so kind, and I learned a lot singing with them!  I loved getting to meet everyone and sing with people who love it just as much as I do!”

We hope to have James and Sylvia back this coming season--and some new scholars as well.
