Purpose:
The Richmond Choral Society (“RCS”) Scholars Program affords able and interested high school-age musicians the opportunity to improve their ensemble singing and the encouragement to continue their involvement in choral singing. The program provides Scholars a modest stipend to those accepted and will operate with some flexibility to accommodate the busy schedules that many talented students already have.
Selection:
The selection of students for the Program will be based on the following:
-
Junior or senior year high school standing.
-
Length of choral ensemble singing.
-
The recommendation of a choir director or vocal instructor under whom they have sung.
-
An RCS audition.
The final selection will be made by the RCS Artistic Director.
Expectations:
An RCS Scholar will sing in at least one of the three RCS concerts in a concert season (December, March or June) and attend at least six rehearsals in preparation for the concert. The Scholar will also be required to attend that concert’s dress rehearsal and will be asked to work on the music on their own between rehearsals.
Stipend:
-
$25 per rehearsal
-
$100 per concert
Rehearsal/Concert Information:
Regular rehearsals are held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 315 North Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23229 on Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and occasionally on a Sunday afternoon. Dress rehearsals are held at the concert venue during the week before the concert. Performances are on Sunday afternoons. Venues vary per concert, but are generally within the Richmond city limits.
