RCS Scholars Program

Are you a high school junior or senior who loves to sing in a choir? Do you want to improve your vocal skills and learn from a professional artistic director? Do you want to earn some money while doing what you love? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might be interested in the Richmond Choral Society Scholars Program!

The Richmond Choral Society (RCS) is a community choir that performs three concerts per season, featuring a variety of choral music from classical to contemporary. The RCS Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for talented and motivated ensemble singers to join RCS and receive financial compensation for their participation.

As an RCS Scholar, you will:

  • Sing with a diverse and friendly group of adult singers who share your passion for music.

  • Be mentored by the RCS Artistic Director and other experienced singers.

  • Improve your ensemble singing.

  • Experience the thrill of performing in front of a live audience at a professional setting.

  • Earn $25 per rehearsal and $100 per concert.

RCS Scholar Expectations

  • The RCS Scholars Program is designed to be flexible and accommodate your busy schedule. You can choose to sing in one, two, or all three concerts in a season, depending on your availability and interest.

  • You will be expected to attend at least 6 rehearsals, including the dress rehearsal(s), for each concert you sign up for, and to practice the music on your own between rehearsals.

Qualifications for the RCS Scholars Program

The selection of students for the Program will be based on the following:

  • Junior or senior year high school standing.

  • Length of choral ensemble singing.

  • The recommendation of a choir director or vocal instructor under whom they have sung.

  • An RSC audition.

The final selection will be made by the RCS Artistic Director.
